Georgia O'Keeffe: Photographer presents approximately 95 photos created by O'Keeffe over the course of 3 decades, from around 1940 to 1965, along with comparative paintings and drawings. Organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in partnership with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, the exhibition will focus on O'Keeffe's use of the camera to further her modernist vision. Notably, the artist did not produce photographs as an aid to her paintings. Rather, she embraced photography as a unique art form and practice. O'Keeffe: Photographer will be organized in 4 or 5 thematic sections, each of which will Georgia include both O'Keeffe's photographs and comparative paintings or drawings. These sections will demonstrate O'Keeffe's inventive use of the camera as an extension of her modernist vision. Many photographs will be presented in groups in order to best illustrate the artist's close observation of nature and her search for the best forms through multiple exposures and small variations in composition. This organization builds upon early exhibitions of O'Keeffe's work which presented paintings, watercolors, and sculptures together in thematic and formal groupings.
